How Rapper Jim Jones Saved His Photographer and Friend's Life After He Suddenly Collapsed
Updated: Jan 26
Jim Jones, a rapper, reality celebrity, and entrepreneur, may now add lifesaving to his portfolio. Jerry Flete, alias Flee Flicks, the Harlem native's photographer, fell when he and his crew were in Florida for a crypto event for their capo currency.
After that, Jim intervened and saved his life.
"We was just literally just hanging out on a break from work. Just hanging out," Jerry said. "It just happened so fast. Basically, I woke up, Jim giving me chest compression and telling me, 'Wake up. Wake up.' He basically saved my life. I'm here today because of Jim."
Jim says he was on a phone call when his partner, Doug, screamed his name frantically, which propelled him to turn around to see what was going on.
"I just saw Flee sitting, just going through something that didn't seem good like he was choking," Jim said. "He couldn't breathe, and his eyes was going back in his head, and he was catching a bit of a seizure. I actually didn't know what was going on. Kind of scared me."
"At the time, I didn't realize what was going on," Jerry stated. "I suppose everything occurred so quickly." I did, however, have an out-of-body experience. I felt as if I was pleading with myself to return to myself. Jim was doing chest compressions on me when I finally snapped out of it."
"The first person I saw when I awoke was Jim." He had me in his grip. I had taken a seat. Jim was over me, hugging me, and I presume giving me chest compressions because it happened while I was sitting down. That's how I began to breathe."
Jerry's life, Jim feels, was saved by something he learnt when he was 12 years old.
"When I was younger, I had to take these CPR and other types of training for my little sister who has a heart condition," he explained. Before she came home as a baby, they required the entire family to attend these particular seminars.
"I believe all of those lessons have stayed with me to this day because I recall what they advised me to do in various scenarios. I made my way over there. At first, I was just as panicked and perplexed as everyone else. Then something leapt in my head and said, "Get to it!" It brought him back to life."
Jerry thanks Jim for saving his life and refers to him as a hero. "Who knows what might have occurred if it hadn't been for Jim? I'm not sure I'd be here today."
Jim, on the other hand, is taking it all in stride. "I'm not a hero," he stated emphatically. "Batman may be a superhero, but I am not."
