Don’t Let Your SkillsFuture Credits Expire: Use Them for Something That Lasts

I was recently going through a Channel NewsAsia report on the SkillsFuture Credit expiring in December 2025 https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/skillsfuture-credit-expire-training-skills-lifelong-learning-5394326 , and it really made me pause.
According to the report, many Singaporeans still haven’t used their SkillsFuture credits, even though it’s essentially free money to learn something new. The deadline is looming, yet most of us continue to repeat the same mantras: “No time.” “Too tired after work.” “I don’t even know what to learn.”
I understand, life in Singapore is hectic.
Between work, family, and everything else, taking a course feels like a luxury. But let’s be honest, more often than not, these reasons are just the convenient way out.
Because to learn something new means slowing down.
It means doing something for yourself, not out of need, but out of want. And perhaps that’s what makes it uncomfortable.
But here’s what I’ve come to realise. SkillsFuture isn’t just about professional development or climbing the corporate ladder. It’s about rediscovering who you want to be, curious, capable, and ready to do something meaningful. If you have no idea where to start, start with something bigger than yourself. Learn something that benefits others.
For me, that would be something like first aid. It’s not about ticking boxes or collecting certificates, it’s about being able to stay calm when someone panics, or knowing how to handle things when your friends or family need you.
Once you learn these kinds of skills, they last a lifetime. You don’t just gain knowledge, you gain confidence. You go home knowing that if something goes wrong, you’ll be the person others turn to.
Don’t let your credits go to waste. Take a moment to think: what do you want to leave unused, your excuses, or your opportunity?
Because time is running out, and this is one of those chances that won’t come again.

This is such an important reminder. SkillsFuture Credits are a great opportunity to invest in yourself, but they often go unused simply because people keep postponing the decision. Choosing training that builds long-term skills can pay off far beyond the course itself. Sometimes timing and finances are the only barriers to taking that step. In those cases, a Simple Loan Process can help bridge the gap while you focus on learning something that truly lasts.
