9 Health Risks Associated With Milk & Dairy

Most people consider milk and dairy products to be healthy and nutritious foods and beverages. However, in recent years, a lot of research has surfaced that contradicts the concept that dairy is good, and in fact, there is a lot of evidence suggesting dairy is harmful to your health.

If you recall, there was once a "Got Milk" campaign that produced ads and advertisements extolling the advantages of milk and dairy. Many people still believe that milk is a miraculous health drink that is an essential component of a well-balanced diet. Unfortunately, this is not the case, and here are nine reasons why.

1. They increase your chances of developing heart disease.

Saturated fats are abundant in milk and dairy products, which can lead to heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. And, because most cheeses contain at least 70% fat, they are particularly detrimental to a heart-healthy diet.

2. As we become older, we develop lactose intolerance.

Lactose is broken down by enzymes in children and newborns. However, most people lose their capacity to handle milk as they become older.

As a result, milk and dairy products can cause serious digestive issues such as bloating, gas, and diarrhea.

3. Consumption of dairy products has been related to cancer.

Milk and milk drinking have been related to cancer in several studies. The National Cancer Institute analyzed the diets of women who had been diagnosed with breast cancer and those who had not in a research published in 2017.

They discovered that consuming cheese in one's diet increased the risk of breast cancer by 53 percent.

4. Dairy and milk are not good for your bones.

While many milk aficionados and marketing departments would have you think that milk is beneficial and important for bone health, research have revealed that it has very little effect.

5. An increased chance of developing diabetes.

According to studies, men and women who consume a high-dairy diet have a substantially increased chance of developing type 2 diabetes.

The one exception was that when low-fat dairy was ingested, the risk was lower than when full-fat dairy was consumed.

6. Microorganisms can be found in milk.

Most people believe that because milk is treated, there is no risk of swallowing bacteria, but this is simply not true. Salmonella, Listeria, and E.coli can all be found in pasteurized milk. Consumption of some microorganisms can cause not just severe illness but potentially death.

7. Pesticides are found in dairy products.

Despite the fact that some pesticides have been outlawed, they are still discovered during dairy product testing.

DDT, for example, has been declared a human carcinogen, although it has been discovered in milk in a variety of studies.

Pesticides like these have been linked to cancer, and they're frequently discovered in high concentrations in milk tests.

8. Dairy may wreak havoc on your bones.

Not only does milk have no bone-building properties, but it has also been related to bone issues. According to WebMD, research have indicated that nations that consume the most dairy have higher rates of fractures.

9. Antibiotics are found in dairy products.

And, as if the previous instances weren't awful enough, milk includes antibiotics as well. As a result, it may promote antibiotic resistance in people, making it even more difficult for your body to fight infection and disease. Furthermore, using antibiotics on a daily basis is bad for your health in general.
