In the third and final segment of his presentation, Mr Rasheed answers a few more questions on first aid and CPR, commonly asked by laypersons. There are also reviews by the audience as well as sharing of real first aid experiences by members of the audience – which further validates the need for everyone to know the basics of first aid. This part of the first aid presentation is approximately 5 minutes long and is a must watch to conclusion to this presentation.
This is the second part of the presentation which is conducted at BNI Renaissance on the 11th March 2009. During this segment, Mr Rasheed talks about what first aid really does and why it is so important, from the viewpoint of paramedics and doctors. Mr Rasheed also answers a few common questions about first aid and CPR. This segment is approximately 10 minutes long and is the second part of this first aid presentation.
On the 11th of March 2009, Singapore First Aid Training Centre’s Training Director Mr Abdul Rasheed Doad conducted a 15 minute presentation for BNI Renaissance, one of the most established business networking group in Singapore.
During his presentation, Mr Rasheed gave a quick introduction on both Singapore First Aid Training Centre and his own background. But more importantly, the presentation paid more focus to bringing forth the true essence and mission of first aid. It also answers some of the most commonly asked questions about performing first aid and CPR. This presentation is a MUST WATCH for all first aiders, CPR providers, AED trained personnel, healthcare staff, BCLS and ACLS practitioners.
In this post we have attached Part 1 out of 3. Be inspired~!
We did a lot of product testing before, but none comes close to a product that takes CPR to the next level.
In real CPR, you will never EVER know exactly how much you are compressing and most of it is guesswork. That is bad because without really knowing if you are pressing deep enough or quick enough, your CPR may not be optimum. CPR at its’ best will deliver ONLY about 30% of circulation!!! So there is no room for mistakes or inaccuracy. That is why it is imparative to use a CPR feedback device.
But not just any CPR feedback device. You need a device which can provide you with an accurate (only about 10% inefficiency) and reliable feedback. A product which adds value could also be one that provides other benefits, such as better recoiling mechanism (or spring return, like how we call it). Chest recoil is important because it ensures good “refilling” of the heart and not many CPR devices help ensure that. And if the CPR feedback device is can help reduce risks of injuries and trauma associated with CPR, it may further improve results.
After reviewing all the products available, we found only 1 product that provides all these benefits – CPREzy. CPREzy may look bulky or strange at first, but once you start using it, you will quickly discover how it can benefit during real rescue. For example, when you first use the CPREzy, the first thing you will notice is how weak your compressions are BEFORE using the CPREzy and how you can immediately correct yourself and perform good compressions almost instantly.
Plus CPREzy is priced much lower than most CPR Devices, making it one of the most cost effective products of its kind in the market. CPREzy wins hands down.
Check out what our participant has to say about CPREzy:
This is a funny spoof video which shows how the AED or Automated External Defibrillator is used along with CPR. Before you play, we must warn you of the unclear sound quality…. and the hilarious acting!
This is not an instructional video, but its intention is to educate and provide you with a simple understanding of how the AED is being used. And if you see from the video, AEDs are not hard to use at all! In fact, they are so easy to use, its ridiculous! AEDs come with voice prompts and visual prompts, guiding the rescuer every inch of what they require to do, all the way to the point where the shock is delivered.
Another highlight is that this shows the old method of CPR, where a pulse check is needed. As confirmed by the National Resuscitation Council, the pulse check is no longer necessary to determine if CPR or AED needs to be initiated. In fact, the good old “Look, Listen, Feel” to check for breathing is sufficient.
If all of these confuse you, then you need to be resuscitated in one of classes. Call us to check when is the next available class for CPR. Nothing beats good ol fashion CPR and AED practical on a dummy. Anyway, here is the video. Enjoy!
Singapore First Aid Training Centre was invited to be part of the AED Launch Ceremony for Adventist Home for the Elders on the 14th of March 2009 @ Blk 195 Kim Keat Avenue #01-314 Singapore 310195.
The event will be conducted at 195 Kim Keat Avenue. The Guest of Honour for this event is Mrs Josephine Teo, Member of Parliament for Bishan Toa Payoh GRC. Because of our contribution in training the staff of the Adventist Home for the Elders, Singapore First Aid Training Centre will be handed a token of appreciation given out by Mrs Josephine Teo on this day.
The AED Launch is a benchmark for AED implementation history in Singapore. The Chairman of Adventist Home for the Elders, Mr Wan Kwoong Weng was the brilliant mind behind this project. Mr Wan felt that it just made sense to have a public access AED to not only cater to the Home, but also to the neighbourhood and its surrounding.
Placing the AED in a wall mounted cabinet in a public place would allow the AED to be fully utilised in that area. “It just takes one life saved to make it all worthwhile,” says Mr Wan.
Singapore First Aid Training Centre has also participated in this initiative by providing the certified CPR+AED training to 12 volunteers and staff of the home. Conducted over 4 hours, the CPR+AED course is a fully accredited by the National Resuscitation Council and provides laypersons with the essential knowledge of CPR and how to use the Automated External Defibrillator. All the participants put in their best and completed the course successfully!
Finally, the future of AED implementation for public access looks bright in Singapore.
Singapore First Aid Training Centre was being invited by Eagle Productions to provide professional input for a Malay Health programme on Suria called S.M.L @ Sihat. S.M.L@Sihat is a health magazine that broaches the subject of health in a ‘prevention is better than cure’ approach.
This episode includes a segment on cardiac arrest. It covers the identification, signs and symptoms, CPR and also an introduction to the AED or Automated External Defibrillator. The skit is a guy who was running on the threadmill and suddenly experiences immensed chest pain. He loses balance, falls off the threadmill but is just saved in time from falling by a fellow gym member. At this point, a close up shot shows him looking pale and sweaty, both signs of a heart attack.
Singapore First Aid Training Centre featured on the Suria news. A clip showing NRC accredited CPR+AED course being conducted for Singapore Silat Federation (PERSISI) athletes. Features the full line up of silat national athletes including Mr Sheik Alauddin, former national silat champion. Dr Fatimah Lateef, MP GRC Marine Parade was present to share her comments and teachings to the CPR+AED participants.
The Singapore Silat Federation or PERSISI will be AED equipped for their competition and as a training requirement, we were privileged to have a team of national silat athletes take up CPR+AED course with us. The 4 hour NRC accredited CPR+AED course was different this time, because we were surrounded by the media crew from Suria News who were featuring this event.
At the same time, we were visited by Member of Parliament Dr Fatimah Lateef for GRC Marine Parade, who happened to by the medical advisor for PERSISI. During her visit, Dr Fatimah Lateef shared her knowledge and experience with the silat team and even went the extra mile to spend time to explainand demonstrate the steps of using the AED.
It was a great experience for all the trainers and staff at the Singapore First Aid Training Centre, and yet another milestone for the use of AED in sports today.
Preventing injuries during CPR, performing good compressions, correct compression rates… All these go a long way in increasing the victim’s chances of survival. Unfortunately, most people do not do any of these 3 important factors right.
That is why when we heard about CPREzy, we were just so excited about what it can do – and the number of lives it can potentially save. So what is CPREzy?
CPREzy is a simple, rectangular device which you place on the person’s chest where you would place your hands during CPR. Now it may seem like it looks a little flimsy or hard to use at first, but after a couple of compressions on the CPREzy, you’ll find it very easy to use.
The CPREzy has indicator lights which tells you how deep you need to press for different sized victims. For example, for a smaller sized victim you may only need to press at the level of about 2 indicator lights. For a bigger victim, 3-4 indicator lights would be sufficient. This means that you don’t have to keep guessing whether you’re doing good enough or not. You can SEE whether you’re doing good enough or not. Cool huh?
Besides that, we found that this feature also helps you to maintain consistency in your compressions. Well, its a fact that CPR is tiring and we lose some steam after a while. So you can actually tell when you are not compressing enough and can either “buck up” or get someone else to replace you. Also, using CPREzy keeps the pressure only on the sternum and not on the ribs. So it prevents injuries to the ribs as well.
2 out of 3. How about the compression rate? We all know that compression rates are important – if you’re either too slow or too fast, you don’t get good circulation moving. Good circulation can be maintained if compressions are done at a rate of 100 beats per minute. So to resolve this important problem, the makers of CPREzy has included a “metronome” like feature. The beeping audio will beep consistently at 100 beats per minute, giving rescuers a guide to follow. Great stuff!
With tons of studies and testimonials to back it up, CPREzy is truly a revolutionary tool for all rescuers. We’re making it our product of the month! When it comes to saving lives, let’s make it EAZIER! For enquiries on CPREzy, contact SingAsia Medical at 65360995.
